As any new parent is aware, you become inundated with stuffed animals. And as your child's life progresses, the collection is ever expanding. We had a rocking chair FULL of stuffed animals, stuffed animals on shelves, in hanging baskets, in bins, and EVERYWHERE!
So, we discussed toy nets that you can purchase in stores, but I didn't like any of them that much.
Instead, I went out and bought a large ball of cotton and started coming up with a net of my own. I used natural, unbleached, undyed cotton so it would better mimic a fisherman's net.
And of course, tried my hand again at writing a cohesive pattern to share.
Little Fisherman's Toy Net
Pattern no longer available...sorry!
Hi :)
ReplyDeleteI found your toy net pattern the other day! I decided to try making it and I've completed step/row 39. I'm stuck on the next part though and am wondering if you can clarify the last few steps?
So far the pattern is great though, so thanks for posting!
Thx,
~T
It looks as if I made a slight type-o in the final steps...
ReplyDeleteIf you've gotten as far as 39, then you're almost there :) You've probably noticed that you're building a meshwork foundation with decreases in every row to narrow the shape. DON'T CUT YOUR YARN YET!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
After 39, the pattern SHOULD follow like this:
40. Ch 20, join with sl st to 5th ch from hook, sc in each ch (15 sc)
EDGING: *3 sc in dc space, sc in sc* repeat around all 3 edges, skipping the hanging loops, fasten off
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hanging instructions do not change - the loops made from the 5 sc joined with sl st are still your hangers, and measurements should be the same for hanging.
I hope that clarifies for you, and I will be changing this post to reflect the correct pattern instructions at the end. If you have any more problems, let me know, and I'll do my best :)
Crap, I cut my yarn already, haha. Oh well, I will remedy that as best I can and finish up the net :)
ReplyDeleteThat all makes much more sense -- thank you!
I just finished the net -- Thx for helping me with the last part of your pattern :)
ReplyDeleteNow to buy hooks/wall anchors & try it out!
I know you posted this on Craftster in 2008, but I just recently came across it. A friend of mine "needed" one of these for herself. She knits and I crochet, so she gave me the yarn to make her one.

Thanks for posting this!
thanks for sharing, AmyLynn! I just checked out yours, and it looks
ReplyDeletegreat :)
I've been looking for a sturdy crochet net pattern for my daughter's mega load of stuffed animals! I hope to have it finished by summer's end (with all my other crafty projects!) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteNo problem :) I hope it works out for you!
ReplyDeleteCome back and show your finished project.
I finally finished the toy hammock! After some adjustments (since I used some unmarked HUGE hook) I actually got it hung up today! Check it out and let me know what you think: http://the-hook-brings-you-back.blogspot.com THANK YOU for the pattern!!!
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing, Kari! Yours looks great, and I love the little flowers on the trim :)
ReplyDeletehi I am stuck... from the very beginning ...
ReplyDelete6. Ch 3, dc in 1st ch 1 space *ch 1, dc in ch 1 space* 22 times, ch 1, dc2tog **ch 1, dc in ch 1 space** repeat until row complete
7. Repeat Row 6.
When you say on R7 repeat R6.. i can't because there aren't that many dc there since I already decreased.. that is what you mean when you say dc2tog right? decrease 2 double crochets? so would I just make R6 a single row of dc ?
I'm on row 6 but even with my decrease my rows appear to end at the same spot if i crochet to the end of the row. Should it be one less? I don't think I'm understanding fully
ReplyDeleteI would love to have a copy of your pattern. Is there any way I could get it from you?
ReplyDeleteHi, Wendy. Yes, the pattern is available for sale on my page over on facebook.
